Tooth Brushing Techniques: How to Brush Your Teeth Correctly
Brushing teeth is not only important for healthy smile or fresh breath, it is most important for a person’s overall health. Brushing teeth removes dirt that sticks to teeth and bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. For healthy teeth, you should follow proper dental care routine that dentists recommend.
- Brush your teeth twice a day. Once is in the morning and another is before going to bed.
- Choose a soft bristled brush and the brush should be well fitted on your mouth so that you can brush properly all of your teeth.
- You can use dental floss to clean food debris from your teeth.
- You should replace your toothbrush every three or four months.
- Use fluoride toothpaste as they help to remove plaque as well as strengthening teeth enamel. But, do not give fluoride toothpaste to children under 3.
How to brush your teeth correctly
If you want to maintain your oral hygiene you must know how to brush your teeth correctly. The proper brushing techniques are:
1) At first, take a small amount of toothpaste on your brush.
2) Place your toothbrush at 45-degree angle toward the gum line. Brush your teeth with vertical and circular motion gently. Move the brush gently outside lower right, outside lower left and outside upper right, outside upper left. Then brush inside upper right and inside upper left, inside lower right, and inside lower left teeth. Don’t brush hard along the gum line; it may irritate your gums.
3) Try to brush your teeth at least 2minutes. You can divide the time for every part. It will help you to make you sure that you are not missing any part of your teeth. Do not miss to brush inside the upper and lower front teeth.
4) After completing brushing your gently clean your tongue with the brush. It will help to keep your breath fresh. But, be careful. Don’t brush too hard. It may damage the tissues of tongue.
5) After brushing your teeth rinse your mouth with normal water. You can use any mouthwash according to your choice or saltwater to freshen your breath and to keep your mouth germ free.
6) Rinse your brush with water. And keep it uncovered and let it dry. If you don’t clean the brush properly bacteria may grow on it.
You should keep in mind few things which you should avoid:
- You may use an electric or manual toothbrush. Both are ok. But, do not use toothbrushes with natural bristles which are made from animal hair. Bacteria may grow in this type of brushes.
- Do not brush too fast or hard. These may cause damage your teeth enamel.
